India is a land of diverse religions, races, and cultures. Arunachal Pradesh is known as the 'land of the dawn lit mountains.' This is the first state, in India, to receive the rays of the rising sun. The state of Arunachal Pradesh was carved out of the state of Assam. This is situated in the extreme north eastern part of the country. The capital of this beautiful hill state is Itanagar. Like its neighbor, Assam, this state has a rich cultural heritage. Volumes can be written on the living cultures in Arunachal Pradesh. Most of the original inhabitants of Arunachal Pradesh are of Tibetan or Thai-Burmese origin, while a sizable number are from the neighboring states of Nagaland and Assam.
