The culture of Arunachal Pradesh shows a strong Buddhist influence. Its folksongs comprise of fables, similar to Jataka Tales, where the birds and animals take the place of human beings. Paintings in the state, also, reflect a strong Buddhist influence.
One prevalent style of painting is the Tangkha painting. The predominant motifs in the Tangkha paintings are a mix of religious teachings and traditional influence. This scroll painting style is mainly found in the Buddhist dominated regions of Tawang, Upper Siang districts, and west Kameng. This is also known as Thangka painting. This style of painting is also found in other styles like Newari, Japanese, and Tibetan. This style of painting has been promoted by the Buddhist monks who traveled to different places, preaching the tenets of Buddhism.
