Assam is one of the largest states in the Northeastern part of India. Assam shares its borders with other Indian states like Orissa, West Bengal and Bihar. Surrounded by rivers and mountains from all sides, Assam is a beautiful state and is a very popular tourist destination in this part of the country. Assam is visited by thousands of national and international tourists throughout the year because it has got a lot to offer. Located on the bank of Brahmapura River, Guwahati the capital and the largest city is the most important center for tourism in Assam. Apart from several sightseeing spots, the place of pilgrimage are also popular tourist attractions and are visited by lot of people almost in every season.
Besides, the wilderness area in Kajeeranga, the scenic beauty of Cherapunji the Majuli Island, hill station of Haflong, Sibsagar, Bohang Bohang Bihu and Manas National Park are also major tourist attractions in Assam. But these are not the only reason why people from all corners of the country and even from foreign countries come to visit Assam throughout the year. The living cultures in Assam also add a lot to tourism in the state.

Speaking about living cultures in Assam it has to be mentioned that Assam is one of the major cultural center in the Northeastern part of India. Though at present it is one of the most developed states in the country, people of Assam still maintain various cultural traditions that were followed in the early days.
