Assam is situated in the extreme north-eastern part of India. In the past, Assam was known as Kamrup. The Ahom dynasty gave the state its present name. The ruins of temples, the stone structures found in places like Bhaitbai and Tezpur, exhibit evidences of Buddhist and Hindu influences.
