Dance of Bihar

Bihar is a state in India. The place has a rich historic background. The state offers a number of interesting tourist destinations. Patna, the capital of the state, previously known as Pataliputra was the seat of Nanda and Mauryan dynasty. Apart from Patna a tourist can also visit important spots like Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Vaishali, Pawapuri, Bhagalpur etc. Nalanda and Vikramshila University were also located here. Bihar is a culturally rich state. The culture of Bihar is expressed through its dance forms. Dance of Bihar reflects its ethnic identity.
Some popular dance forms of Bihar :

Holi Dance : Holi dance of Bihar is one of the most popular dance form of the state. It is performed during the holi festival.

Chhau Dance : The Chhau dance was originally a war dance of Bihar. But it has evolved into a folk dance though which the tribal people of Bihar expresses their creative joy. Harvest Dance : During the harvesting season the male and female villagers take part in the dance to express their joy and happiness for good crop. The song and dance is performed on the fields.
Jumari Dance : This dance of Bihar is for married women. It is a folk dance of Mithilanchal region in Bihar.

Jat Jatin Dance : This dance form is mainly performed in the Maithila region of Bihar. It is performed by the Harijans.

Jhijhian Dance : It is the most popular folk dance of the state. Jhinjhian dance is performed when there is drought. The inhabitants of Bihar believes that if they sing and dance to satisfy the God of Rain, Indra, then rainfall will take place.

Bidesia : It a dance drama performed in Bhojpuri language.

The folk dances of Bihar are Dhobi Dance, Manjhi Dance, Mor Morni Dance, Sohrai Dance, Bidapad Dance, Gond Dance etc.
