The classical music of India is divided mainly between Carnatic tradition of South India and Hindustani tradition of North India. Indian dance is a rich domain with classical and folk dance forms speaking of the rich culture of the places of their emanation. There are eight dance forms, which are accorded the status of classical dance by the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama. The eight dance forms are Mohiniattyam of Kerala, Kathakali of Kerala, Bharatnatyam of Tamil Nadu, Sattriya of Assam, Odissi of Orissa, Manipuri of Manipur and Kuchipudi of Andhra Pradesh.
