Architecture and sculpture of India encompasses a wide range of historically and geographically spread structures. These fields are aesthetic continuum, which are carrying rich legacies of traditions and are absorbing novel influences and day by day are enriching.
Indian architecture starts with Indus Valley Civilization. The architecture of Harappa and Mohenjodaro were urban and speak of the prosperity of the ancient civilization in India. The Vedic architecture was also rich. In the Gupta and Maurya age the architecture in India were majestic. Indian rock-cut architecture is a unique style of architecture. The erotic and exquisite sculptures and architecture of Khajuraho temples, the stupas and Buddhist monasteries speak of the cultural affluence of ancient India.

The medieval era in India experienced the invasion from the Middle East. The medieval architecture and sculpture in India were influenced by Islamic traditions. The vault, dome and arch got included in Indian architecture. The Mughal Empire is the time of some of the most majestic architecture of medieval era. The greatest example of mughal architectural prowess is the Taj Mahal, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. This white marble tomb still takes the breath away with its purity and beauty. The Red Fort and the Fatehpur Sikri ate the two other examples of Mughal architecture.
Architecture and sculpture of India during British colonization were unique. With the British came the architectural styles of the occident like the Neo-Gothic, Neo-Classical, Baroque and Mannerist styles.

Today the architecture of India is varied and beautiful with the rich traditional legacies and the incorporation of the novel influences.
