Architecture and Sculpture of Goa

Goa, the coastal paradise of India is popular for white sandy beaches, numerous fairs and festivals, sculptures and other tourist locations. Serene environment, easy going lifestyle, rich culture and several architecture and sculpture of Goa makes this state a place of choice among tourists across the globe. The Goan architecture is an exclusive amalgamation of Indian, Mughal and Portugal styles. In Panjim, the capital city of Goa you will find several magnificent squares, which is praise-worthy. Old residential place like Fontainhas area is noted all over the state for the closely-knitted houses with beautiful tiled-roofs, hanging balconies and carved pillars.
Old Goa is also popular among tourists, not only for the splendid places but also for the exquisite buildings all over the place. To witness the architecture and sculpture of Goa one must visit the noted churches of the state, exclusively Se Cathedral, Church of St. Cajetan, Church of Francis of Assisi and Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Goa State Museum, founded in the year 1973, is known worldwide for its impressive architecture and large collection of ancient sculptures and artifacts. All the twelve galleries of the museum are worth watching.
As the Sculpture Gallery showcases stone sculptures and copper inscriptions, the Contemporary Art Gallery is noted for paintings and sculptures of prominent Goan and Indian artists. Though most of the Goan temples are recently built, however, some were founded many decades ago. The first temple of Goa, built in late 1818, displays architectural brilliance and stands out from the other temples of India. Along with the Naguesh Temple, one of the ancient Hindu temples in Goa, other temples like Mangueshi Temple, Sri Devaki Krishna Temple, Mahalsa Temple, Ramnath Temple and so forth are also noted for the architectural work and sculptures. To witness traditional architecture and sculpture of Goa you should visit the various forts of Goa, namely Terekhol Fort, Aguada Fort, Cabo Da Rama Fort and so forth.
