Fairs and Festivals of Goa

Goa has always been known as the land of fairs, festivals and celebrations. With Hindu as the major racial group, Goa has been bestowed with a number of festivals, which is celebrated throughout the year. As per the Hindu mythology Goa is referred to as the ‘Land of the Gods’. All the fairs and festivals of Goa are celebrated pertaining to all the unique Goan characteristics. These fairs and festivals of Goa are colorful and celebrated across the entire state. The local deities of respective families are values considerably and small festivals are quite common. Yatra is a unique celebration of Goa in which innumerable devotes walk along with Palki procession.
Festivals like Diwali or Deepavali, Dussehra and Holi are celebrated in the same manner as celebrated across the country. However, the best part of these fairs and festivals of Goa are the uniqueness of Goan flavor. Know about some of the fairs and festivals of Goa from the below sections:

Mahashivratri: This celebration of Lord Shiva is held at all the temples of Shiva. The main locations where this festival is celebrated are Harvalem, Kavlem, Nagueshi, Rahmapuri, Shirgao, Kasarpal, and Panaji.

Rantha Saptami: This celebration generally takes place in the month of February at the Mallikarujuna Temple of Panaji. It is carried out in the belief of Shri Mahalakshmi, the deity of Panaji.
Shigmotsav: This festival of Goa reminds everyone about the arrival of spring. This five day festival of color is celebrated in almost all the locations of this state specially Panaji, Mapusa, Margao and Vasco-da-Gama.

Ghodemodni: This renowned parade of horses can be witnessed in Bicholim and Fatorpa. The synchronized sound of the drums and martial dance is worth watching.

Drama Festivals: This festival of Goa prolongs for a week. During this period almost all the villages’ present stage plays and exhibits their performances to the crowd.
