The beginning of the calendar year sees the celebration of Halda in Lahaul. This Buddhist festival is celebrated on the banks of Chandra Bhaga river. Lohri and Maghi are also celebrated in the winter months. These festivals celebrate a good harvesting season with new crops stored in the granary by the farmers. People dress up in colorful attires during this time of the year and celebrate the year in glee.
