Madhya Pradesh is one of the most renowned states of India. Apart from the picturesque tourist attractions Madhya Pradesh has been known across the country for its rich culture and traditions. The music of Madhya Pradesh basically comprises tribal music, rural folk music, ritual and ceremonial music and Indian classical music. Almost all the artists specialize in a particular field of music and go ahead with the respective songs. People of Madhya Pradesh are witnessed singing songs from all around the country as well as the world. Music of Madhya Pradesh is quite diversified, varying from one area to another. Music in every corner of Madhya Pradesh has a unique essence and tends to attract all kinds of music lovers.
Apart from the ritualistic songs, almost all the songs sung by the local artists differ by the locations of Madhya Pradesh. The Sing Maria and Muria tribes of the Bastar district are known for their special songs named ‘Relo’. Another style of these people is the ‘Dhankul songs’, which portrays the chait parah and goddess Danteshwari. Leha songs are noted in and around the Jagdalpur area. Baghelas mainly reside in Banghelkand and Bundelkhand and are known for their semi-historical songs. These songs of Madhya Pradesh are mainly ritualistic songs, devoted to Hardaul and other deities.
The Pai songs of this area go best with the saira dance, especially during the rainy seasons. Shringari Lavani and nirguni lavani songs are popular among areas of Nimad and Malwa and are sung generally by the Adivasies. The songs of Madhya Pradesh are accompanied primarily by drums, which are found in different sizes and shape across the state. Bhils have dhols and mandals, large drums by Bastar, and other drums are like tasa, damahu, dphala, chang and so forth. Along with these, the bans instrument is also used for enhancing the musical effects of Madhya Pradesh.
