Dance of Rajasthan

Dance of Rajasthan is one of the most integral part of the cultures of Rajasthan. There are many dance forms that have evolved from the various regions of Rajasthan. Rajasthani dances are graceful and requires immense coordination of body and with others as well. The dances are imbued in Rajasthani culture for many years. The best thing about the dances of Rajasthan are that it is very colorful and entertaining. Most of the dances are accompanied by live musicians and singers, that add a vibrancy to the performances. The musical instruments provide rhythm and grace to the dance steps. The dances are solos or are mostly performed in groups. The folk dances are most in demand as they mirror the culture of Rajasthan in their depiction.
There are many dance forms like Bhavi, Chari, Ghoomar, Kacchi Ghodi, Gair, Kathak, Kathputli, Teerah Taali, Maand, Pabuji Ki Phach, Sapera, Fire Dance and Drum Dance. Each of the dances have distinct style and pattern. Most of the dances have originated centuries ago. The dances have been performed at the courts of great kings. All the dance are performed by trained professionals who have practiced and perfected the art of dance forms. The dances of Rajasthan gives importance to presentation as all the dancers are dressed in traditional attires and jewelery. Men and women both wear costumes that make them look vibrant and colorful. All the dance forms have their typical costumes, worn by the dancers. The costumes are sign of the kind of dance that would be performed.
The Bhavi dance has women dancers who are veiled and balance six to seven pots on their heads and groove to the music. At times they perform with their feet on a sword or glass. The Bhavi dance requires immense skill and balance. The Ghoomar is a dance of celebration among women and is not performed by men. It has women swaying in rhythmic circles with the music. Another famous dance form is the Kathputli or the puppet dance. The puppets are dressed in gaudy and traditional attires. They depict many traditional ballads that are a part of the Rajasthani culture. The Kachhi Ghodi is a dance form where dancers that comprises of both male and female dress as horses and dance vigorously. There are swords that are brandished as if to show mock fights.
