The handicrafts of Rajasthan are renowned throughout the world for its intricate detailing and designs. The handicrafts have the influences of the regions from which it has originated along with other influences as well. Rajasthan has a rich culture and tradition that is reflected in the traditional designs of the handicrafts. The handicrafts of Rajasthan are crafted by artisans who have learned the art that has been handed down from generation. The culture of Rajasthan is myriad as there are a population of mixed race that influence the living cultures. The Hindu and Muslim culture of the state has given it a very ethnic and colorful face that attract many tourists. Handicrafts are one of the major sources of revenue for the state.
The handicrafts of Rajasthan are best seen in the jewelry and clothes that are intricately embroidered and available in many colors. The jewelry designed in Rajasthan are very traditional and are worn by both men and women. The Mughals and Rajput rulers loved to adorn themselves with jewelry. Hence the designs were extremely beautiful and well crafted to suit the tastes of the royal clan. Bangles are the most famous accessories of Rajasthan. They are available in many colors and mostly made of glass and other precious material like gold and silver. The meenakari work is the most famous style of making jewelry in Rajasthan. The jewelry is enameled with different colors finely on the intricate designs.
The dress materials are made with different dyes on which embroidery is done and at times only plain embroidery is done that gives the materials an elegant look. The embroideries are influenced by Persian style after the coming of Mughals. The Rajputs too preferred rich embroideries and elegant clothes. The shoes too are made with leather that can survive the rough terrain and are designed too. The furniture made of marble, stone and wood are examples of fine craftsmanship. The handicrafts of Rajasthan uses traditional methods and the trained and experienced artisans make exquisite articles that are a piece of art.
