The Rajputs were very valiant and wonderful rulers. They saved Rajasthan from many invaders that tried to take over Rajasthan. The Rajputs were cultural people who encouraged art , crafts and music in their courts. The music of Rajasthan has many forms of classical and traditional base. Each city has its own style of musical forms.

The music of Rajasthan has the influence of Pakistan's Sindh region as it shares its borders with it.The Rajasthani culture has mesmerized many with its vivaciousness and the simple portrayal of life in its songs. The songs are mostly folk songs depicting the daily lives and the hardships faced by the tribes. Some of the songs are centered around bringing of water, that is a difficult task due to the desert. Some of the songs are epics that are sung by traditional singers and musical instruments. The songs begin with alap and then continues to the rest of the couplet. Some of the songs are written by groups who then compose them and present it among the audience. Often there are competitions among two groups who compose and sing songs with fervor.
The music of Rajasthan has a rustic feel. While performing, the musicians and singers wear colorful clothes and jewelry that makes the presentation all the more alluring. It gives a very active feel even to the listeners. The headgear of the men are very integral part of the performances. At some of the musical performances, there are women who accompany the male singers. Women also play musical instruments and perform dances as well. Each style of songs are divided by names that signify the particular type and makes it easier to understand.
