The paintings of Rajasthan developed as early as 16th century and has contributed greatly to the art scenario of the country. The painting of Rajasthan has adorned the palaces and abodes of many kings and rulers who have encouraged art and crafts to flourish. Many rulers of Rajasthan were great patrons of art and with the coming of the Mughal dynasty, there were influences that further enriched the art and craft of Rajasthan. Cities like Udaipur, Jaipur, Bikaner, Kishengarh had Rajput rulers who encouraged such activities. There are different schools of painting that had distinct style of its own. Most of the painting schools in Rajasthan were traditional and the art has been handed down for centuries.
