Architecture and Sculpture of Uttar Pradesh

Architecture and Sculpture of Uttar Pradesh are silent witnesses of events that have moved the nation in ways more than one. Beginning from the splendid Mughal architecture to the modern sculpture Uttar Pradesh is known for a variety of items and statues. The Taj Mahal in Agra is considered to be one of the seven wonders of the world. The ivory color of the tomb along with a host of forts and Humayun's tomb makes Agra one of the major centers of Architecture and Sculpture of Uttar Pradesh. In Bundelkhand one can witness a great number of sculptures built between 12 th century and 17th century by the Chandels Kings. With the queen of Jhansi taking over it became difficult for British to introduce Doctrine of Lapse in Uttar Pradesh.
The Jhansi Fort in Jhansi is dedicated to the fiery spirit of the queen of Jhansi. A good number of statues, regal weapons, dresses and garments used in the historic wars may be seen in the Government's museum. The Rani Mahal in Uttar Pradesh is a major crowd puller. Once the residence of the daring Queen Laxmibai this wonderful building is a rare specimen of Architecture and Sculpture of Uttar Pradesh. The Kakarmath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is yet another unique piece of architecture in Uttar Pradesh. Made of pure granite this temple attracts a whole lot of devotees every year in the month of Sravan. The Sun Temple at Rahila is also made of granite.
This 9th century temple is dedicated to the sun God and is worshiped every morning even to this day. Maniya Dev Temple dedicated to the tutelary deity of the Chandelas and the fort at Kalinjar are also important as Architecture and Sculpture of Uttar Pradesh. Neelkanth Temple, Dashavatar Temple, Jain Temples, Ramghat, and Chitrakoot mountains are also great places to visit in Uttar Pradesh.
